Lou Eyrich’s new Tattoo mania

Posted by Disha Singh on September 13, 2011

Cheers Lou!

On the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, Glee award-winning costume designer, Lou Eyrich showed off “a somewhat different style” a lovely head tattoo.

People might be renouncing her latest hair-do sorry I guess I should say tattoo-do of Lou Eyrich 😉 But I am 100% loving it.

No greys, No Hair-fall just artistically managed hair etched on your head.

It’s not the first time that she has played with her hairstyle. But this time I would like to say that she is looking great in this extra ordinary tattoo. And I would not like forget to appreciate the efforts of the great man behind all these pseudo hair.

Tattoo Alert:

New research has turned up troubling findings about toxic chemicals in tattoo inks, including carcinogens and hormone disruptors.

Inks, which are injected into the skin with small needles, have caused allergic rashes, chronic skin reactions, infection and inflammation from sun exposure, said Elizabeth Tanzi, co-director of the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery in Washington, D.C. A study published in July suggested that phthalates and other chemicals may be responsible for some of those problems.

That raises questions about more serious, long-term risks such as skin cancer, says scientists to SFGate.com (Read More…)

Posted by Disha Singh on July 2, 2009

Whole world was shocked on 25th June when the ‘King of Pop’ was reported dead.

Micheal Jackson was well-known for his many physically complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk.

When you think to give a tribute to Jackson what could be better than his signature moves.

Sir Winston Churchill, the inspiration behind Angelina Jolie’s film tattoos

Posted by Disha Singh on July 6, 2008

As our country’s great wartime leader, Sir Winston Churchill has received too many tributes to count.

But he’s never been commemorated quite like this before.

Angelina Jolie has revealed that two of the tattoos she acquired for her latest film Wanted – about a secret society of assassins who try to make the world a better place – are a homage to the Second World War Prime Minister.

The words in gothic script on her upper arms come from a speech Sir Winston made on the day he took office in 1940.

In an interview for US television, Miss Jolie said: ‘We tried to focus the tattoos on themes that would be related to this sense of justice.

‘From Churchill’s speech, “We have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat,” I had “Toil” and “Tears”.’(Read More at Dailymail)

Rihanna recently got a cool starry tattoo on her back. The tattoo is of a cluster of stars sprinkled down her back resembling the facial tattoo of Kat Von D.

Kat Von’s starry tattoo is a kinda logo of hers and Rihanna is the next to adorn her back with similar design. May be latter was inspired by former for her fifth tattoo.

Rihanna now wears five tattoos in total. Earlier she had a music note i.e. a treble clef and a 16th note on her ankle, a Pisces behind her right ear, a star inside her left ear and a Sanskrit prayer going down the hip.

Taking a closer look at the tattoo I’m drawn towards the significance of five-pointed-star. Some stars of Rihanna’s tattoo are an outline and some are filled. The filled five-pointed star tattoo commonly signifies a star but people say that the five-pointed star represents the quest after Divine Knowledge, feminine energy, and the secrets of life.

A Cute Starry Foot Tattoo

Posted by Disha Singh on March 13, 2008

Awesome foot tattoo by Heidi Serth

Recently, I read that Gwyneth Paltrow has tattooed letter ‘C’ on her hip to show her commitment to hubby Chris Martin. Couldn’t she be little creative to etch something cool and more artistic!

Anyways that’s her choice but not mine. I like tattoos which have some colourful designs, whether these designs are of my kindergarten drawing books.

Well! over here the foot tattoo is inked by Heidi Serth of Art N Body Studio, whose tattoos take me back to my school days and various cute cartoon characters.

Okay let me come back from my childhood wonderland… Guys lemme tell you something about foot tattoos:

  • It is painful to get tattoo on your foot especially your ankle.
  • Tattoos on feet are less durable because of the greatest amount of physical “abuse”, which cause the tattoos to fade faster.
  • Foot tattoos are difficult to maintain.

Beyonce’s New Henna Tattoo: A Cool Do

Posted by Disha Singh on November 9, 2007

Beyonce’s New Henna Tattoo

Last week Beyonce was spotted in a henna tattoo on her right forearm when she arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma airport in Jakarta, Indonesia. She looked stunningly hot with the new tattoo.

Henna body art is a tradition that has been practiced for over a 1000 years. Actually, Henna Tattooing is considered very auspicious and is very prominent in the Middle East countries. Every celebration bring along henna tattooed hands of the ladies. Similar to permanent tattoos, there is a sky rocket growth in the henna tattooing craze. Whether it is Eid or Diwali, Karva Chauth (a fast taken by married ladies for long lives of their husbands) or wedding; henna plays an important role.

There is a special ceremony called “mehndi ki rasam” before the wedding day, in which henna tattoo designs are drawn on brides’ hands and feet – where the color is darkest because the skin contains higher levels of keratin, with which the colorant of henna enters a permanent bind. These days the fashion of “Bridal Mehndi” is growing in complexity and elaboration, with new innovations in glitter, gilding, and fine-line work. The length of henna tattoos have grown upward from hands to arms and from feet to legs depending upon personal choice.

There are various henna designs available in the market like Arabian mehndi, Indian mehndi, shaded mehndi, etc. each design is exceptional in it’s own way. The cost of the design depends upon the selection of design and area to be covered. Bridal mehndi is expensive than other ordinary designs.

For henna tattooing you don’t need to undergo any pain and the procedure is so simple that even you can perform it at home:

1. Take 100 grams of sifted henna powder mix sieved lemon juice, 10 grams essential oil like lavender – for sensitive skin, tea tree, ravensara, or cajeput oils into it.

2. Prepare a paste of this mixture by adding sieved tea leaves water (made by boiling tea leaves in water).

3. Stir the mixture well to avoid lumps formation and then leave it for couple of hours till henna releases dye i.e. when brown puddles are seen on henna.

4. Fill the henna into a plastic cone, make a small hole into the tip of the cone and your henna tattoo gun is ready to tan you. Instead of so much of botheration you may buy a cone – readily available in the market, but some are allergic to the dye used in them, therefore, here is DIY henna tattoo.

5. Stencil the design onto your hands and fill the design with the henna cone.

6. Make sure that henna touches your skin so that it can tan properly.

7. After the design is made let the henna dry on your skin.

8. Then with the help of cotton swap moisten your henna design with a mixture of sugar and lemon juice – to keep it sticking to your skin. Do not put this mixture on wet henna design otherwise, it will spread the design.

9. Leave the henna on your skin for atleast 5-6 hours or overnight and then let it fall off on its own – do not bring the tattooed portion in contact with water for atleast 18 hours.

10. Do not panic if the starting color of your henna tattoo is pumpkin orange because the real dark color will appear after a day.

Except from tattooing – henna has various medicinal qualities. Anyways, we are here to discuss its body adornment feature only.

For this Diwali, I wish you very happy and safe DIY henna tattooing on this festival. Do not include those materials to which you are allergic in your henna paste.
